Problems in connection with the teaching of Southern Sotho
Ramone, Pascalis Makhotso
The fourth problem is concerned with the lack of standardised Southern Sotho terminology which can be employed by all the teachers, and is dealt with in chapter VI. Three categories of grammatical terms are in use, namely, English terms. English terms that are found in the teaching of Comparative Bantu Philology, and the SeSotho grammatical terms which are not standardised.
A prelude and prologue to the four above-mentioned aspects, chapter I states the problem in broad outline, the aim of the dissertation and the method followed. Chapter II deals in general with the role of the mother tongue in the field of education with particular emphasis on the role played by SeSotho in the LeSotho educational system as a medium of cultural expression, as a vehicle of thought, as a national bond, as a symbol of national identity and as a socializing force.
The final chapter VII, attempts to offer the writer's tentative suggestions and recommendations as well as possible solutions to the problems just discussed.
