Christ on the streets: A call for active citizenry in the context of migration, homelessness and marginalisation in the City of Tshwane
Kgatle, Mookgo Solomon; Mofokeng, Thabang
This chapter reflenects on an encounter with the authors and a Bible study group constituted by homeless people and a few others working with the homeless in the city of Tshwane. The session focused on reading Matthew 25:31–46, a text chosen by the researchers because of its assumed resonance with the lived experiences of the homeless community in the City of Tshwane. The researchers came into the session with questions which sought to discover what sense these ordinary readers would make of this text. From this encounter, the researchers asked: What implications arise out of the pavement encounter with Matthew 25:31–46 to stakeholders in the city of Tshwane? How does the pavement perspective compare to a learned reading of the same, and why?
